Open Night at the Museums

On May 14, 2011, the city of Rome will be celebrating Open Night at the Museums for the third consecutive year. Since 2005 this yearly event has reaped success throughout Europe; this year it will involve more than 3000 museums in 40 countries.
In Rome, state and city museums, public libraries, private museums, foreign academies and cultural institutions, La Sapienza University, cultural institutes and historic palaces will be open to the public free of charge from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Open Night at the Museums will involve Rome’s most important cultural and exhibition spaces, including the CAPITOLINE MUSEUMS, MACRO, CENTRALE MONTEMARTINI, the GALLERIA BORGHESE, PALAZZO BARBERINI, CASTEL SANT’ANGELO and GNAM.
Citizens and tourists will be able to visit the museums’ permanent and temporary shows free of charge, and attend the many scheduled events. The venues of this extraordinary night time cultural “marathon” will be enlivened by concerts, theatrical and dance performances, readings, video projections, lectures, guided tours and workshops.
